What is PeraSpray?
PeraSpray is a ready-to-use (RTU), EPA-registered peracetic acid spray that is used for cleaning, deodorizing, sanitizing, and disinfecting all types of surfaces. PeraSpray is a broad spectrum sanitizer and disinfectant that kills 99.999% of bacteria in less than 60 seconds and 99.9% of viruses in 10 minutes most commonly found on touched hard and soft surfaces. PeraSpray is also completely chlorine free and leaves no harmful or toxic residues which makes it a popular cleaning method for food based industries. The design and development of the PeraSpray is backed by Ambic’s world-wide reputation for top-quality products.
PeraSpray has bactericidal/virucidal disinfectant claims against the following organisms:
- S. aureus
- P. aeruginosa
- S. enterica
- E. coli
- K. pneumoniae
- L. monocytogenes
- Human Rhinovirus 42 (the common cold)
- Influenza A (swine flu)
What is Used in PeraSpray?
PeraSpray’s primary component is peracetic acid (also called peroxyacetic acid, or PAA), which is an organic compound. It is a colorless liquid with a characteristic pungent odor reminiscent of household vinegar. All commercially available PAA products contain a combination of PAA, hydrogen peroxide, acetic acid, and water.
Peracetic acid is ideal as an antimicrobial agent due to its high oxidizing potential. It is highly effective against a broad range of microorganisms. In addition, PAA breaks down in food to safe and environmentally friendly residues (acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide), and therefore can be used in non-rinse applications. PAA is one of the most environmentally friendly antimicrobial agents, since resulting wastewater can be land-applied for irrigation and is generally eligible for NPDES permits to discharge to natural waterways.
Is PeraSpray Safe?
PeraSpray is one of the safest disinfectants on the market and can even be sprayed directly on food. It utilizes safe and environmentally friendly low concentrations of chemicals that makes it safe to use on any surface. If you need to disinfect a surface or location, PeraSpray is one of your best options available.
Common Peraspray Applications
The United States Environmental Protection Agency registered peracetic acid as an antimicrobial in 1985 for indoor use on hard surfaces. Today, registered applications have expanded to include sanitation for the following purposes:
- Food and beverage plants
- Agricultural premises
- Wineries and breweries
- Greenhouse facilities and equipment
- Animal housing
- Sewer and drain lines
Peracetic acid is also approved for use in dairy/cheese processing plants, and can be used directly on fruits and vegetables, as well as on meat, poultry, and seafood products. It is also used to prevent biofilm formation in paper and pulp industries, and as a disinfectant for municipal effluent. As environmental protection becomes of greater interest, PeraSpray continues to see a rise in usage among a variety of industries.
